Universal Pre-Kindergarten

First Steps’ Universal Pre-K program provides a nurturing, play-based learning environment where children develop essential social, emotional, and academic skills. Our NY state certified educators foster curiosity, creativity, and confidence through engaging activities that prepare children for Kindergarten and beyond. We ensure every child receives a strong academic and social-emotional foundation for lifelong learning and thriving.

First Steps is contracted by the Onteora Central School District to provide UPK. In order to be eligible, children must be four years of age on or before December 1 of the given school year and live in the Onteora district.

Registration is through the district and opens in January for the approaching September. To register online, parents or guardians should go to www.onteora.k12.ny.us and click on “Registration & Displaced Families.” The link for online registration is in the middle of the page.

Once your child is completely registered, their name will be placed in the lottery, which is completed in May. If you have any questions you may contact Margaret Harkin at mharkin@onteora.k12.ny.us.

Preschool

First Steps’ Preschool program offers a warm, engaging environment where young learners develop essential social, emotional, and cognitive skills. Through play-based activities, hands-on learning, and guided exploration, our experienced educators nurture curiosity and confidence, preparing children for a seamless transition to Pre-K and a lifelong love of learning.

Our Preschool program is for children who are 3-4 or turning 3 by or on December 1st of the given school year. Enrollment begins in March for the following academic year (September-June). Children may be registered at any time, providing there is space. However given the program is usually filled, we recommend contacting us early to sign up to receive an invitation to register when enrollment opens in March.

Summer Program

First Steps’ Summer Program is a fun-filled, enriching day camp designed to keep young minds and bodies active and engaged all summer long. With exciting activities, creative projects, outdoor play (including lots of water play), and hands-on learning, our summer program fosters social growth, creativity, and exploration in a safe, nurturing environment - making summer both educational and unforgettable!

Our summer program is open to children ages 3-5. Town of Woodstock/Onteora district residency are not required for this camp. Enrollment begins in February.
